Peterborough is celebrating a remarkable cultural success as Titanosaur exhibition at Peterborough Cathedral surpasses 8,000 visitors within its first fortnight.
Since opening this April, the arrival of the colossal Patagotitan mayorum, the most complete giant dinosaur ever discovered has captivated audiences. Stretching approximately 37 metres in length and standing around 6 metres tall, the titanosaur dominates the Cathedral’s historic Crossing, offering a unique opportunity to encounter one of the largest creatures ever to walk the Earth. On loan from London’s Natural History Museum, this internationally significant exhibit marks a special moment in which a world-class scientific marvel is experienced outside a traditional museum setting, right at the heart of Peterborough.
The event is proving to be a powerful demonstration of how culture can drive regeneration, attract new audiences, and bring communities together and the exhibition builds on the Cathedral’s recent programme of internationally acclaimed installations and reinforces Peterborough’s momentum towards its future City of Culture aspirations.
Jack Pishhorn, Chief Operating Officer at Peterborough Cathedral, said:
‘The response to the Titanosaur exhibition has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s been fantastic to see so many people connecting with both the science and the unique setting of the Cathedral. Welcoming over 8,000 visitors in just two weeks shows a real appetite for ambitious cultural experiences in Peterborough, and we’re now carefully measuring the wider economic impact to help shape how we deliver future exhibitions of this scale. What makes this experience particularly special is that a ticket offers far more than just the Titanosaur, visitors can also explore the full beauty, history, and architecture of the Cathedral. I’d encourage everyone to come and experience it for themselves.’
As the exhibition continues, Peterborough Cathedral invites visitors to experience this awe-inspiring encounter for themselves and take part in a landmark cultural moment that is elevating the city’s national profile. With May half term approaching, families can also enjoy an enhanced visit, including a dedicated craft area designed to inspire younger visitors and bring the story of these prehistoric giants to life.
