Shakespeare in Song at Lyddington
This year marks 460 years since the birth of Shakespeare. In honour of the occasion, the Harborough Singers return to one of their favourite venues − St Andrew’s Church, Lyddington.
The programme will be wide, and possibly surprising. Alongside Shakespeare Song sets by Emma Lou Diemer, Charles Paterson and Vaughan Williams, the choir will perform a Choral Medley of Bernstein’s well-loved tunes from ‘West Side Story’. Works by modern composers Richard Allain (‘If Music be the Food of Love’) and Sarah Quartel (‘I know a bank where the wild thyme blows’) will add long, expressive melodies and evocative textures to the mix, while George Shearing’s ‘Seven Songs & Sonnets’ will draw the night to a Jazzy finish.
