On Saturday 19 October William Law CE Primary School held a community ‘Ground Force’ style event, based on the BBC garden makeover show, to start building their new Forest Church. School staff, parents and members of the church community came together on an incredibly wet day to create the Forest Church on a site that has previously been used for forest school activities. The plans were ambitious and included tyre swings, mud kitchens and a pizza oven. Volunteers worked through the wet weather and were kept energised by copious supplies of tea, cake and biscuits. Miss Lenton, Principal of William Law CE Primary School was overwhelmed by the support of everyone who came to get involved and said, “It was such a testament to the relationships across school and church communities. We are so thankful and excited for all that will grow from us sharing in this together!”
William Law CE Primary School is one of four schools within the Diocese that is part of the Flourish network. The network looks to establish partnerships between schools and their local churches, aiming to engage a large number of children, young people and their families. The four new worshipping communities will be based in William Law CE Primary School in Werrington, Hartwell Church of England Primary School, Pytchley Endowed CE Primary School and Malcolm Arnold Academy, a secondary school in the centre of Northampton. Each location will devise a different plan to develop a new intergenerational worshipping community based in the school.
Work will continue on the Forest Church at William Law CE Primary School, but young leaders have already started to explore what a gathering will look and feel like, and Miss Lenton says, “Everyone is excited to see what the future holds. Our Ground Force Day represents a significant step in bringing this vision to life, and we’re eager to see our community come together to shape this exciting new area.”
