On Thursday 5 October children from across the diocese attended the annual Diocesan Schools service in Peterborough Cathedral. This annual service of dedication and thanksgiving takes place at the beginning of every school year and it was wonderful seeing so many of our schools being able to join together in worship.
The service included the presentation of bibles to those in senior leadership roles in schools across the diocese who had been appointed during the last year. Bishop John thanked them for their dedicated service to education and personally blessed each Teacher in turn whilst the staff and children from their school stood in support.
The afternoon service was a showcase of many of the schools musical talents with both a combined junior choir and senior choir. The senior choir had members from Malcolm Arnold Academy Choir, The Peterborough School Choir and Oundle School Choir opened the service with a rousing rendition of ‘Zadok the Priest’ Handel’s coronation anthem number I (George Frideric Handel). Later singing a beautiful setting of Psalm 23, The Lord is my Shepherd by Howard Goodall.
The school choirs of All Saints Church of England Primary School Northampton, All Saints Church of England Primary School Peterborough, All Saints Church of England Primary School Wellingborough, Glapthorn Church of England Primary School and Polebrook Church of England Primary School, Brigstock Latham’s Church of England Primary School and Croughton All Saints Church of England Primary School sang ‘Jesus is Lord’ (David Mansell) and ‘Lord Jesus Christ’ (Patrick Appleford). It was a great joy to experience the sound of so many young voices filling the cathedral.
