It is with great sadness that we record the death of Frank Smith who passed away on Sunday 9 March.
Frank served as Vice Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education for over a decade, as Chair of the Board Budget Committee (later the Resource Management Committee) and as a member of the Diocesan Board of Education for thirty years. Alongside this, Frank was also Lay Chair of Peterborough Deanery.
Frank is remembered fondly by his diocesan colleagues. Susan Lamb, who worked alongside Frank on the Diocesan Board of Education, said; ‘I remember Frank with fondness - I recall how friendly he was to me at my first DBE board meeting. He was chatty and asked about my experiences, not just my career but what I did in my Parish. He was always friendly, thoughtful and encouraging, a strong Christian gentleman. As a board we give thanks for his contribution over a long period of time.’
A former teacher, Frank set up Peterborough Christian Books over 45 years ago with his wife Annette. The shop was his passion and he never retired, always serving in some way, driven by his mission to share Jesus and the gospel with others.
Frank will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
