Remembering Sue Parkinson

It is with great sadness that we record the death of Sue Parkinson.

Sue Parkinson taught for over 30 years in various locations across the UK and Channel Islands, in both primary and secondary schools; serving as a teacher and SENCO in several schools in Peterborough Diocese.

Since retirement, Sue served as a Bishop’s Visitor to schools, as a SIAMS Inspector and as a member of the High Needs Funding Panel for Northamptonshire County Council. Sue was Lay Chair of the Northampton Deanery for 9 years and a Volunteer Safeguarding Trainer for the Diocese, delivering in-person safeguarding training to Parochial Church Councils.  She was a Governor at 6 different schools, including Vice Chair of Governors at Little Houghton Church of England Primary School until fairly recently and a Governor at Wilby CE Primary School, until its relocation and relaunch as The Glenvale CE Primary School, as well as being a Member of the Weston Favell CE Primary School and St Mary’s CE Primary School Academy Trusts.  She served on the DBE for 23 years and was Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education Strategy & Leadership Committee for over a decade, continuing to serve  as a School Appeals Panel Member for West and North Northants and the Diocesan Appeals Service.  Sue was also an active member of Christ Church, Northampton and before that St Matthew’s, Northampton.  In both churches she gave unstintingly of her experience and time.  Sue will be greatly missed by many across the Diocese and more widely.

We can give thanks for Sue’s immense contribution to education in Peterborough Diocese and to parish church life and beyond, whilst extending our deepest sympathies and condolences to Sue’s family at this saddest of times.

Sue's funeral service will be held at Nene Valley Crematorium (305 Doddington Road, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire NN8 2NX) on Wednesday 26 November, at 12noon. All those who would like to attend and to pay their respects are welcome.

The family requests 'Family flowers only'. Donations for the British Heart Foundation may be sent to Hollowells Funeral Directors, 148-150 Beech Avenue, Northampton NN3 2JN.
