We are delighted to welcome David Morton to our Vocation and Formation Team as Lay Ministries Officer.
David has a background in education working as a teacher and headteacher in Community and Church of England primary schools in the North East and East of England. For the last nine years has been the Director of Education in the Diocese of St Albans
With a lifelong passion for developing those he works with and supports, David has an MA in Mission and Christian Mentoring and is currently exploring a call to become a Spiritual Director. He is excited to see the people of God grow in confidence and be released into ministry.
Haydon Spenceley, Director of Vocation & Formation said, ‘I am delighted to welcome David to the Diocese and to the Vocation and Formation Team. I am excited at how the combination of David’s extensive gifts and experience, along with a real willingness to follow God’s lead into the future will assist all who sense a call to serve God, Church and community.’
‘I am convinced that all of us, together, have a part to play in sharing the good news, in being and making disciples and in equipping one another for good works, in the power of the Spirit. David catches this vision in a vibrant way. As a team we are seeking God’s lead for the shape of ministry looking into the future. David will play a key role in that and I look forward to welcoming him when he begins with us in October.’
David has broad experience of lay ministry including preaching and leading worship, pastoral care, mentoring and prayer ministry. He is often drawn to support those on the margins and has been a volunteer city centre chaplain and a befriender for a local charity.
David is married to Debbie and has two grown up children. He and his family have lived and worshipped in Peterborough for 23 years. He is an enthusiastic gardener and a slightly less enthusiastic attendee at his local gym.
