First Eco Church Gold Award for Peterborough Diocese

All Saints Church, Kettering has become the 56th Gold Eco Church in England and Wales and the first in the Diocese of Peterborough. The award was given by A Rocha UK and reflects All Saints’ commitment to walk in step with nature and put creation care at the heart of what they do.

Revd David Walsh, Priest-in-Charge at All Saints said, ‘we are delighted that All Saints, Kettering has become a Gold Eco Church, the first in the Diocese. This has happened because of the remarkable group of people leading this project, both in the church and the local community.’

Registering with Eco Church in 2022, All Saints swiftly gained their bronze award, quickly followed by silver, but to gain a gold award is not an easy journey and takes dedication and perseverance. In their gold award application, All Saints identified themselves as a team aware of making ethical choices, able to rise to difficult challenges with fun and enthusiasm, as well as honesty when detailing the challenges they faced to implement actions needed to meet the gold Eco Church standard. It showed how All Saints are an active church embedded in the local community with their William Street Community Garden a fantastic example of collaboration to create an incredible space at the heart of the community.

Polly Eaton, Eco Diocese Officer at Eco Church said, ‘one of the many strengths of All Saints is their community engagement; they participate with local networks on environmental issues, liaise with the local Wildlife Trusts, engage with clean-up projects and support other churches to engage with Eco Church’.
