Lay Workers, Lay Ministers and Readers gathered in Peterborough Cathedral on Saturday 20 September for a joyful celebration of ministry, renewing their commitment to serve and welcoming those taking their first steps in these roles.

The service was accompanied by the worship band from St John’s in Corby who played uplifting and spirit filled songs including ‘Bless the Lord, oh my Soul’ and ‘Here is love, vast as the ocean’.

The sermon was preached by Bishop Alex who who began by referring to 1 Kings 19; Acts 21:7-14 – The voice of the Lord came to the prophet asking, “What are you doing here Elijah?” He reflected how ministry is rooted in who God made us to be ;’God takes us seriously, and meets us as we are, and seeks to draw out the best in us’.

During the service, Bishop Debbie licensed Readers and Lay Workers, commissioned Lay Ministers and Wardens of Lay Ministry, and welcomed those beginning their ministry for the first time.

Together, we gave thanks for their faithful service in parishes and communities across the Diocese and prayed that God, who has called them to these ministries, would equip and strengthen them in their ministry.
