Bishop’s Charity 2023
I think it important that we continue to have a nominated Bishop’s Charity during the vacancy after my retirement. It will be up to my successor as to what to do once he or she is in post.
I am designating Christians Against Poverty (CAP) as the Bishop's Charity during the vacancy in see. Confirmation collections, and any donations received by the Bishops’ Office, or by bishops in the course of their ministry, will go to this very good cause.
Over their 25-year history, CAP has helped tens of thousands of people find freedom from debt and despair through provision of free professional help offered through local churches throughout the UK.
CAP works with third sector organisations, politicians, churches and grass roots campaigners to research, campaign and advocate for those living in debt or fear of debt. Its focus and vision is on transformed lives, thriving churches and an end to UK poverty. I warmly commend what they do and the way they do it.
The impact of the cost of living crisis will no doubt add to the 14 million people already living in poverty in the UK, so I’m delighted to do whatever we can as a diocese to help this excellent charity. Please support it generously.
