Dr Russell Wate QPM has been appointed Chair of the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisory Panel (DSAP). DSAP oversee safeguarding arrangements in the Diocese and support our Diocese team and local Parish Safeguarding Officers to make our churches a safe space for all.
DSAP offer external expertise and challenge to the Diocese on safeguarding matters. They offer a quality assurance function and advise on arrangements to support and monitor the implementation of good safeguarding practice in parishes. DSAP bring together expertise, knowledge and experience from Diocesan officers, advisory and pastoral staff together with Statutory Local Government, Police and Probation Services.
The independent Chair of DSAP has responsibility for ensuring that the panel’s advisory and scrutiny functions are carried out effectively.
Dr Russell Wate joins the advisory panel with extensive experience leading strategic safeguarding partnerships and working in an advisory capacity on both a national and international level.
