A school in the Diocese of Seoul, one of the South Korean dioceses linked with the Diocese of Peterborough, is raising money for a much needed playground.
Huimang School in Uijeong-bu, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, was opened by Dr Freda Kim, the founder of World Play Day, in 2001, as a preschool and kindergarten for children with disabilities. The school provides free education for children whose families usually had to shoulder heavy medical costs without any financial assistance. The school went on to become a comprehensive facility providing therapies and inclusive education, but were unfortunately never able to build an outdoor play area.
The school are currently in the process of raising funds to purchase a piece of land adjacent to the school building where they hope to build a much needed outdoor play area, but only have until March 2025 to raise the money. Fundraising is being provided by churches in the Diocese of Seoul, the staff of Huimang School are contributing part of their salary each month and parents of the children contribute where they can. A concert in Seoul Cathedral and a bazaar are also hoped to increase funds.
If you are looking for a charity to support in your parish this year, perhaps consider donating to Huimang School's playground fund. For further information or to make a donation, please contact Dr Freda Kim.
