Local curate is going for golfing glory

Local curate, Rev’d Joe Griffith is aiming for golfing glory by attempting to qualify for The Open Championships this week (24 – 30 June) .

Every year, amateurs (with a handicap of 0 or better) are eligible to enter regional qualifying for the Open Championship and Joe is hoping that this might be his year. “It's a tough journey to get into The Open - there are very limited numbers, and the quality of golf is very high… It would take a miracle for me to qualify! But God is in the business of miracles, so I believe it is possible”

Rev’d Joe is Curate at St John’s Church Corby, St James’ Church, Gretton and the Chapel Gym Corby.  Alongside his curacy and golf training, Joe is also aiming to raise £5,000 for The Chapel Gym by completing various activities including a half marathon. This money will go towards their new programme, The Youth Outreach Project, which will work with 20 young people at risk of permanent exclusion from school, providing them with free, supervised gym sessions. This project will make a huge difference to the lives of the young people, their families, and their schools .

I’m sure you will join us in wishing Joe the best of luck in his attempts to qualify for The Open and you can find out more about The Chapel Gym here
