Four new Wardens of Lay Ministry have been licensed by Bishop John with two dedicated to working within each Archdeaconry. The Wardens are there to help support and develop our lay ministry, offering pastoral care and training guidance to our readers and lay ministers as well as reviewing working agreements being a core member of the lay ministry forum.
Let’s meet the team:
Carolyn Brawn
A former teacher, Carolyn found time to explore her vocation and train as a Reader following her retirement in 2005 and enjoys leading all forms of worship from a lively morning prayer to Compline. Carolyn considers being a Reader to be a special privilege and is looking forward to helping others achieve the fulfilment she experiences from serving in this way.
Mark Lucas
A scientist by training Mark is very interested in science and the Christian faith. Married to Julie with 4 children and 7 grandchildren, Mark was ordained in 1994 and spent in 12 years in Chichester Diocese before moving to Peterborough. Mark is committed to ensuring lay ministers receive good training and increasing lay involvement in parish ministry.
Paul McLeod
Paul is both Rector of the Whittlewood Benefice and a former Rural Dean of Towcester Deanery. He is married to Sue, who is is Vicar of St James’ Church, Northampton and St Mary’s, Dallington and is inspired by the ministry of all people in God’s Church. Also known as The Speedy Rev, Paul is Chaplain to the Silverstone Circuit, home of British Motor Racing.
Sue Pinington
Sue was liscensed as a lay minister in 2016, completing her Reader qualification in 2020. She is passionate about care of the elderly which she demonstrates through her work with Anna Chaplaincy and is a voluntary chaplain at the Cathedral. When she is not devoting her time to lay ministry she works part time at Northampton General Hospital as a receptionist.
