Our intrepid walkers, Archdeacon Alison and Director of Mission Charlie Nobbs completed their 150 mile pilgrimage on Pentecost Sunday having reached all 12 of our deaneries, sharing stories of faith and praying with the communities they visited. Watch some of their highlights.
Started in 2016 by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York, Thy Kingdom Come is a global wave of prayer between Ascension and Pentecost that invites all to deepen their own relationship with Jesus, to pray for others to come to faith, and for the empowerment of the Spirit that we would be effective in our witness.
Last year Steve Benoy, Bishop’s Chaplain and Canon Missioner walked the length of the Diocese during this time, attending prayer events in every one of our deaneries and sharing good news stories from our parishes.
This year we expanded on this opportunity with a focus on effective witness through sharing our stories of faith and helping others to share theirs. From 9 to 19 May two teams walked the boundaries of the Diocese, starting in Peterborough Deanery on Ascension Day and meeting back together in Brackley Deanery on Pentecost.
During this time, one team shared their stories of faith, and the other team focused on helping others to be confident in their witness. Each day of the pilgrimage saw a Thy Kingdom Come Deanery event so that all of the Diocese could join together in prayer and hear stories of faith shared.
Bishop Debbie attended many of the events, and shared her own story of faith during the pilgrimage. She said ‘I enjoyed visiting all our deaneries, praying with you and hearing your stories as well as sharing my own. Sharing our faith with others is a powerful demonstration of God’s work in our lives and being part of the Thy Kingdom Come global movement empowers us to remember that we are all part of God’s family together, wherever we are on our journey of faith.’
