In September, Stanion Church of England Primary School in the Corby Deanery was presented with a Church School Excellence Award following successful outcomes of recent Ofsted and SIAMS inspections.
A strong Christian vision is embedded through the school’s core values of Love, Inspire, Flourish, Embrace (LIFE) and the SIAMS report recognised how ‘compassionate and knowledgeable leaders at all levels use the vision to underpin decision making and actions.’ This was further commented on in the Ofsted report where it was acknowledged the school values ‘underpin everything from pupils’ learning to their social interactions.’ This focus has resulted in a culture where ‘relationships are strong and behaviour is exemplary.’
Collective worship was described as ‘the beating heart of the school’ where ‘pupils’ and adults’ lives are enriched, supporting their spiritual flourishing.’ School services are held regularly in church, and parents and pupils value this partnership which provides a natural link for families with their local church. The ‘ows, wows and nows’ of life are explored through collective worship with pupils feeling ‘inspired to do better, be better and feel closer to one another.’
The SIAMS report commented on how the school’s religious education has a ‘high profile and high priority’ and ‘pupils make excellent progress.’ Religious education is well planned and ‘projects undertaken allow pupils to develop their skills and knowledge about religions and non-religious world views.’ The school’s Ofsted report described how 'leaders are ‘ambitious about the range of subjects and topics pupils will study’ and have ‘created a curriculum which helps pupils, including those with special educational needs and /or disabilities (SEND), to achieve well academically.’ Pupils take pride in their work and contribute to school life in many ways including church council members delivering assemblies
A celebratory assembly was held at the school on 24 September, and the Church School Excellence Award was presented to headteacher Wayne Jones by, by The Rt Revd Debbie Sellin, Bishop of Peterborough and Peter Cantley, Director of Education for the Diocese.
