Tiffield Primary School receives Church School Excellence Award

The Diocesan Board of Education provides an amazing programme of courses, conferences and consultancy support for schools, with the challenge, to each and every school, to become an excellent Church of England School.

All Church of England schools receive a SIAMS inspection, (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools), to explore how well each school’s theologically rooted Christian vision drives its work. Traditionally this inspection resulted in the opportunity to receive an outstanding or excellent grade, but this is no longer the case.  Previously, 33% of our schools received an outstanding or excellent grade from their last SIAMS inspection, and the Diocesan Board of Education is committed to continuing to formally celebrate such excellence.

Tiffield Church of England Primary School has become the first recipient of the Peterborough Diocese Church School Excellence Award, following its SIAMS inspection during this academic year.  Similar awards are going to be made to St Mary’s Church of England Primary School, Stoke Bruerne Church of England Primary School, Barnack Church of England Primary School and St Nicholas Church of England Primary School later this term.

Tiffield Church of England Primary School’s vision is based on Mark 9:23 ‘All things are possible for one who believes’ and the inspector commented that ‘the vision is deeply embedded into the life of the school, driving all actions and decisions.’  The inspection also found that the Christian vision impacts positively upon the curriculum and wider provision.  As a result, adults and pupils are empowered to be aspirational, fulfil their potential and flourish.

Worship, the heartbeat of all our church schools, was found to play a key part in pupils' understanding of the school’s Christian vision, its associated values and their relevance in pupils’ lives.  Leaders were praised as committed to the wellbeing of everyone in the school community. And the strong focus on positive mental health and wellbeing was also underlined.

The religious education provided by the school was seen to offer a safe place for thinking and reflecting on the big questions in life and pupils were clearly seen to enjoy their learning.  Moreover, the school has a clear action plan in place to sustain recent developments in RE.

Following the publication of the SIAMS report, the Diocesan Board of Education awarded the school a specially engraved plaque that was presented by Bishop John Holbrook, Bishop of Brixworth, to Eliza Hollis the Executive Headteacher, at a special service and celebration held at the school, convened by the Diocesan Director of Education, and attended by, all pupils, staff, and Foundation Governors.
