Children and Youth Ministry Training

Children's Ministry Certificate logo The Children's Ministry Certificate

The Children’s Ministry Certificate (CMC) is a year-long course for church-based children’s volunteers and workers to develop their practice, through relationship, training sessions and practical challenges.

Come on the ‘Growing Faith Adventure’ to learn further how to connect with children and families in church flowing into our schools, households and wider community so that they can thrive in faith.

If you lead, volunteer or help in children’s groups in your church, or at the church toddler group, or at Messy Church, or Sunday School, volunteer in your local Primary School or just have a desire to connect the good news message in this ever changing world, with children  this course is for you.

The course comprises of 13 sessions from September to July. Eleven of the sessions run on the evening of the first Tuesday of each month (with the extra 2 sessions on a Saturday in November and a Tuesday evening in January. It is based in Kettering at Christ the King, facilitated by Charlotte Nobbs of the Peterborough Diocese Gen2 team, along with a core team of children’s volunteers and workers from across the diocese.

You will:

  • Share learning in a small, encouraging community, once a month.

  • Be given opportunities to visit some good children’s practice venues.

  • Meet some wonderful practitioners who will tell their stories.

  • Be resourced, invested in and be given opportunity to try out new ways of connecting with children and their families.

Who can come?

Anyone with a passion to build church connection  with  children and families, whether you are a volunteer, a paid worker, have no experience or plenty, have many children in church or none. Come as a team to gather great resources for Christmas/Easter/Exploring the outside and implement them into your church and community.

After School Happiness Club Training

Would you like to bless your school by supporting them in developing the wellbeing of children in your community?

After a successful pilot to run After School Happiness Clubs last year, the Peterborough Diocese Gen2 Children and Youth team, in partnership with Action for Happiness, are pleased to be offering FREE training that will prepare you to run your club in school in readiness for the Autumn term in your local school.

As some of last year’s trainees said:

“The materials and resources provided were excellent and the Padlet [a shared online resources board] with additional resources meant that there is plenty of stuff to run the group without having to search for things which is fantastic, especially for those who are not children's workers, it allows everyone to share resources.”

“The children have engaged amazingly with the activities and mindful activities. One of the girls in particular has said she has used a couple of the mindful activities to help her when she became anxious on the school residential. Another child was so excited by the curious conversation task; she took the cards to help her make friends at senior school in September.”

Youth Ministry Training

Our Diocesan Children & Youth Ministry Team is partnering with Souster Youth (local Youth Work Charity) to deliver a brand new youth ministry training course, starting in September.

Each of the 10 sessions include:

  • One practical skill to try out together
  • One insight into youth culture to explore
  • One area of Christian character to reflect on

Whether you have been involved in youth ministry for years or simply have a heart for young people and would like some help getting started, the Essentials course materials will help you to grow in confidence and reach out to young people with God's love.

We’re encouraging more experienced youth ministers to bring their teams and learn as a group -  you can bring down the cost with our group discounts. Of course you’re welcome on your own, you’ll be made to feel welcome and there will be plenty of others to mix with and new people to meet.

Food is a key part of any YMT gathering. Our meal table is the place where problems are shared, new relationships are built and fresh ideas are born.

We always start with a home cooked meal, from 6.30pm and content from 7.30pm.

You can borrow resources to support you in your training. For more information visit the Children and Youth Library page.
