Welcome to Ruth Mock

We are delighted to announce that the Revd Ruth Mock has accepted the Bishop’s invitation to become the new Canon for Mission and Learning. The appointment was announced at Cathedral services yesterday.

Ruth is currently Vicar of Sandiway and Rural Dean of Middlewich in the Diocese of Chester, and will join the Cathedral in January.

The Dean said:

‘Ruth is passionate about discipleship, inclusion and social justice, and brings with her a wealth of experience, both as a parish priest and from her career before ordination, which is highly relevant to the role she is taking on.’

During her time in Sandiway, Ruth has developed a particular focus on children, young people and families. She established Muddy Church and Breakfast Church as intergenerational services, rebuilt the Sunday Club following the pandemic, and developed strong links with local schools. She also introduced free holiday lunches in partnership with the local library and parish council.

Alongside her parish ministry, Ruth has led a major heritage project involving her church building, giving her valuable experience of caring for and developing a historic place of worship.

Speaking about her appointment, Ruth said:

‘I’m very excited to be joining the staff team at Peterborough Cathedral and look forward to getting to know the congregations and the wider community when we move in January.’

The appointment is subject to the usual Church of England legal and administrative procedures. We look forward to welcoming Ruth to the Diocese in the New Year.
